Sports Massage

Life takes its toll, and regular exercise, training and work can cause tension to build up in the muscles, the fascia and the tissues that support your joints and body. Sports massage can help to relieve the tension, remove the aches and pains that you might be feeling, and help to get you back on track.

Perspective:
Every six months, you will service your car, check your tyres and change your oil because they are machines and need looking after. Your body is very much the same, it gets affected by everyday life, and to keep it working efficiently and effectively, rather than an oil change, you can invest in a sports massage. As the old saying goes, “Prevention is better than the cure”.

What does sports massage do?

There are several claimed physiological and psychological effects of sports massage. Some of these include:

  • Relieve anxiety
  • Increase relaxation
  • Reduce muscle tension
  • Reduce fatigue
  • Reduce depression
  • Reduce delayed onset muscle soreness
  • Increase range of motion

It is important to note that these are claimed effects and that there are some examples where these have been challenged within academic literature.  However, our students will use objective measures to track these claimed effects and ensure that sports massage is the most appropriate treatment for you.
